Approach

There are hundreds of different approaches, or ‘theoretical orientations’ in counseling. It’s no wonder that it can feel overwhelming when choosing the right therapist for you.

At Serenity Counseling, we strive to meet you where you are. We are not a ‘One Size Fits All’ mentality! Everyone is so unique and different, and with different presenting issues, one approach for someone just isn’t the answer for another person. We use research, your goals, and what works best for you, as well as what you prefer when it comes to techniques and interventions.

During the initial appointment, we create agreed upon goals together based on what you sought out therapy for. Maybe you’d like to alleviate anxiety? Maybe you lack purpose? Maybe you’re unsure, you just feel ‘off’. After exploring your issues that bring you in, we cultivate those goals and address them with research-backed interventions and techniques.

Many of our techniques and interventions are derived by the following theoretical orientations, if you’d like to research: Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Client-centered Therapy, Art Therapy, Attachment Therapy, Behavioral Therapy, Humanistic Theory, Gestalt, Music Therapy, Rogerian Theory, Play Therapy, Positive Psychology, Psychodynamic Theory, and Systemic Therapy.
